Where Should We Eat Today?

ED 1If you want to get lunch or supper while you’re out and about in the Jersey City/Hoboken area, you have a lot more choices than they used to have. The food truck, especially in Jersey City, is the up and coming thing. It isn’t just for hot dogs anymore.

Do you like Italian? You’re in luck. There’s a truck or two for that. One is Carmella, which moves to various locations in Jersey City and advertises “Italian street fare”. You can get everything from spaghetti and meatballs to chicken milanese, to slow roasted pork sandwiches.

Speaking of Italian, that’s not the only kind of meatballs you can get at Incrediballs, another truck that moves around Jersey City. Norwegian meatballs with brown gravy and a sour cream dill spread are served as well as Jamaican jerk chicken and even a vegetarian meatball.

If Middle Eastern cuisine is your thing, Sahara Grill & Pita will fill the bill. The falafel is supposed to be great, especially with their spicy sauce. For more eclectic taste buds, there is TacoMobile at Green and Christopher Columbus Dr. They serve not only tacos, but hot dogs (What a novel idea!), schnitzel, gyros, meatballs, and yes, falafel. There’s something for everyone.

There’s a guy named Mordecai who runs Mordi’s Schnitzel Truck in Jersey City. It’s rather eclectic, also, with a heavy dose of Mediterranean and Italian. He says that Schnitzel is very popular in Israel. Go figure. You could also go Korean with Kraverie. People rave about their Cheesesteak sandwich and their kimchi cheese fries.

Perhaps the truck that gets the most attention from the media is the unique Dark Side of the Moo. Run by Tyrone Green, a former commodities trader, the distinctive truck, which moves to various locations in Hoboken and Jersey City, isn’t your run-of-the-mill burger mill. Would you like to try a yak burger? How about kangaroo? He has offered emu, camel and wild boar. The most “mainstream” meat he offers, alligator, is his most popular item. These are just a few of the trucks available to people who like to eat al fresco and who like to try new foods.

Where is your favorite food truck parked today?
