Finding the Money to Redecorate
Now that spring is here, and your whole being isn’t absorbed in keeping warm and preventing a slip on the ice, you may decide you want to do some redecorating in your Jersey City/Hoboken area condo. You know what you want to do, but, since you have impeccable taste, the items you have chosen are a little pricey. Where will you get the money?
The first thing to do is to look at your budget, providing you have one. (Of course, if you don’t you should do something about that, forthwith!) Even if you think you’re already living on a shoestring budget, you might just find some ways to trim it. For instance, bills that you have been paying automatically might be lowered with some effort on your part.
If you have cable or satellite television service, check other sources to see if you can get a better deal. If you find a better price, a call to your present provider could even result in their lowering your bill rather than lose you as a customer. If not, it’s their loss, right? The same plan can work for a decrease in the cost of insurance on your home or car.
Personal expenditures can be trimmed as well. How much would you save if you made your own coffee and used some of those flavored creamers you can buy at the grocery instead of getting a mocha cappuccino every day? (It might just save you some calories, as well.)
Maybe you do need to keep having your hair and nails done, but how about doing it a little less often? You could touch up the polish on your nails between times. Your roots aren’t really noticeable, so you could make the appointments for, maybe two weeks further apart. If you hire cleaning help, perhaps you can have them every two weeks instead of weekly.
Expenditures have a tendency to fill any space available. It takes self-discipline and prudence to overcome that fact. If you get a raise in your salary, instead of increasing your spending, why not save it? It’s basically found money, right? Put it in an interest-bearing account. You’ll be surprised at how fast it will accumulate.
