It’s that time again! People in Jersey City and the surrounding areas look forward to JC Fridays four times a year, marking the beginning of each season. The next one is on June 5. It promises to be a real experience in the arts.

JC Fridays is an exciting event that brings the community into intimate contact with the arts in every genre. Each neighborhood participates in this unique project. The restaurants have special displays while serving tasty food. Many of the exhibits have an ethnic theme, such as the Rumba Cafe. They will display art and artifacts from the Cuban culture. The Bethune Center of Jersey City will feature art of the Philippines. There’s a country/blues/hootenanny theme at the New Park Tavern.

Project Greenville is specializing in showing the talents of young artists with their third annual Student Art Showcase. The highlights will include music performed by students from Jersey City. Local businesses will provide light refreshments.

The Jersey City Reservoir Preservation Alliance has something for everyone, from a history scavenger hunt to a cell phone art competition. They also will have live acoustic musicians performing in several locations, as well as some events led by local artists.

Riverview Neighborhood Association is teaming up with Palisade Lumber for some live music at the Lumberyard. Food trucks will be there for the whole evening. Jersey City native artist Joe Velez is featured in the Art House Productions exhibit. This will be accompanied by refreshments and music by a cappella group, Cabaret Sauvignon.

JC Cultural Affairs will present a chance to view art in the Rutunda Gallery @ City Hall. A traveling small works show, City Without Walls Gallery is featured. They are also displaying a mural by the Learning Community Charter School.

Explore Juxtaposition, a demonstration by Miguel Cardenas with elements of art, design, and spatial concepts. This will be at Gia Gelato & Cafe, where you can also enjoy some delicious gelato!
