Moving Day

march 3Moving Day

It’s all set! You have signed the deed on your luxury condo in the Jersey City Hoboken area. Now all you have to do is arrange for the move. Of course, you have to move out of your smaller condo in another part of town the same day. There are some logistics to arrange.

Many condo complexes have policies that regulate moving in and moving out. It can’t be done just anytime, like a single residency move can. Since there are other units that may require moves, the time has to be scheduled. It could get pretty awkward if two moves are occurring at the same time. Scheduling also allows for the placement of protective mats in places like halls and elevators.

You may be required to pay a moving in/moving out deposit, which is refundable unless damage is caused by the move, like scratched walls, or broken door glass, etc. Sometimes there is a one-time, non-refundable moving-in fee.

If you expect the move to take more time than allotted, (usually about four hours) you should make arrangements with the management ahead of time for an extension. Sometimes there is a charge for extra time.

There are usually specific parking areas for moving trucks. Under no circumstances should you ever park in the fire lane. You can be towed away without notice. When you are moving in, you can probably prop the doors open. However, for security reasons, be sure to close them if there is a break in the action, and when you are finished.

Some things should be settled before your move. For instance, your utilities should be in your name by the time you move in. Any keys should already be in your possession. Of course, the key to your unit will be, but there may also be keys to the outside doors, the exercise room, and any other common areas in the complex. Your parking arrangements should be arranged prior to the move, also. You may require a parking decal.

If the building has a trash chute, be sure to follow the rules. Most of the time, only closed bags of a certain size are permitted. If you use the chute for unauthorized trash, like large boxes, or long items like broken skis, etc., it can cause injury to the personnel responsible for maintenance. There are other receptacles available for these items and for recyclables.

Are you planning adequately for your move?
