Breathe Free! It’s Spring!

Spring has sprung! Crocuses and daffodils are pushing up through the thawing soil and you no longer have to brace yourself to go outside in the cold. That’s a wonderful thing in the Jersey City/Hoboken area where even “mild” winters can be pretty brutal. Now that we can go out, where shall we go? Here are a few spring events that may be of interest.

Let’s begin with a happy gathering: On Tuesday April 5th, all of you brides-to-be can drag your intended hubbies to the Elegant Bridal Show at the Waterside Restaurant in North Bergen. Prizes, special discounts, and lots of fun are promised! There are other such events coming up too, like the Jersey City Bridal Show on May 4th. Go here to find even more!

Then we’ll get down to business with the Business Expo and Taste of Gold Coast on April 20th, also at the Waterside. You can be a vendor and the above link will tell you how.

May is shaping up nicely, beginning on the first (May 1) with the Hoboken Spring and Arts Musical Festival. This event is open to vendors also. The sheer variety of crafts, arts, foods, and entertainers will keep you in awe!

Spring is the time when the local markets and flea markets open. The Jersey City 6th Borough Market is a tradition with a lot of area people. It’s a chance to patronize local merchants, and watch artisans at their trade. Go here to find more flea market info.

Later in May you can go to the Hoboken Irish Festival in Sinatra Park. It’s fun for all ages.

We can’t forget the little people. One place you can count on to have fun for kids is the Public Library. Here’s a link to some of the planned activities at the Hoboken Library.

Our area has its fair share of museums and cultural outlets also. The exhibit on the Titanic at the Liberty Science Center closes at the end of May. If you haven’t seen the Hoboken Historical Museum’s exhibit on Frank Sinatra, you may want to get there, too. It closes at the end of June.

Naturally, now that it’s warm out, people who play sports like baseball and tennis will be using the local facilities. If you like to go to a ballgame, here’s a link to the schedule of the Hoboken Nine Vintage Baseball Club. If your children play sports, you have a pretty full schedule, too. All in all, it promises to be a great Spring!

How will you enjoy the freedom of Spring?
