Living in a condominium has many advantages over a single-dwelling residence. It also presents some challenges that are being met in the standard American fashion – innovation, creative adjustment, and free enterprise. For instance, if you live or would like to live in the Hoboken area, and you own a vehicle, you have to find a place to park that car.
The people in the Mile Square City can walk just about anywhere inside the town. If they want to go to a surrounding town, or to New York, there are various means of public transportation that suffice. For many, that is a good reason not to own a car. However, sometimes one just needs or wants to have a vehicle at one’s disposal. There are several ways to deal with that.
In Hoboken, there are several options. Of course, the standard taxi cabs are always available. The new Uber services are out there, also. Everyone, I’m sure, has heard of Uber, and their challenge to the taxicab industry. The controversy is ongoing, and the resolution could be a long time coming.
Then, there’s a rideshare system called sRide. It’s a car-pooling system that is accessed by an app. You enter your location, the time and place where you want to go, and someone who’s going that way will arrange to connect. This is saving a lot of money for people who regularly commute, as well as creating a whole new social network. Check out sRide.
What if you don’t want to ride with anyone? What if you would just occasionally need or want a vehicle at your disposal, but you don’t want to maintain a car and the parking situation full time? Well, there’s an answer for that, too! The city of Hoboken has a system called Corner Cars. The name springs from the fact that the cars involved are parked in the last available spot on a given block.
This pool of cars is available to people who sign up, and they are maintained by Hertz. It’s saving a lot of money for residents, and drastically alleviating the parking problems in Hoboken. Here’s a link to information about Corner Cars.
