Post Graduate Hunting

It’s the end of May! You have your PHD, (or MA,or BA) clutched tightly in your fist, and you have obtained a great position that brings you to the Hoboken area. Now what? Well, most people would need a place to live, right?

You’ve decided you don’t want a big house or yard, but you would like to buy rather than rent. That means you’d like to find a condominium. You’re not familiar with the area yet, so you don’t know where to begin to look. That’s the thing about college. It often prepares you for a job, but not necessarily for finding a home.

A good real estate agent can help you solve these problems. An agent can steer you to a trustworthy lender who will help you assess the price range you can afford. You must realize that owning a condo entails certain monthly and/or annual fees, so those should be taken into account also.

Once you’ve decided on a price range, your agent can give you an idea of which neighborhoods are commensurate with that price. Then you won’t waste your time looking at (and longing for) places you can’t afford. If you find a place you like, your chances of obtaining it are within the realm of reality.

A good indication of how good the owner’s association is in any particular complex, is the state of the overall property. Are the grounds well kept? Are the hallways clean, and free of noxious odors? Look for a cheerful, yet tasteful décor.

When you find the place you want, your agent can negotiate the best price for you and streamline the buying process. Your agent is your friend. Call me if you need me! Happy hunting!
