Here in the Jersey City/West New York area, people are getting a little stir crazy. Where should you go for a change of scenery when the beach just isn’t an option?

Well, you could take a trip to a museum. There are several available that have some interesting exhibits. A great time to go to the Montclair Art Museum is the first Thursday of the month. They have Free First Thursday with live music, tours and interactive entertainment. If you get hungry or thirsty, they have a full-service bar with eats. There’s a different offering every month.

Of course, the first Thursday isn’t the only time they’re open. You might enjoy an afternoon browsing their Native American Art Collection of Pueblo Indian Pottery. They also have a display of selected works from the collection, “A Centennial Celebration.”

Then there’s the Morris Museum. They have several interesting exhibits going on at once. Now through March 1, you can catch the 288 square foot interactive model train exhibit. Features include a Thomas & Friends display and the Polar Express. For people who love a challenge, the Morris Museum also has Mind Benders, with over 20 puzzle stations. This also runs through March 1.

Going further into March, the Morris Museum has “Brick by Brick”, an exhibit dedicated to the creative use of Legos. Whether you’re 8 or 80, you’ll enjoy this display and the opportunity to build your own masterpiece, as well as write your name with Legos on their Lego wall. Vintage dollhouses and miniature rooms are featured in yet another display at the Morris Museum. You can also enjoy the ongoing display of the fabulous pottery of the innovative Albert Green.

The Macculloch Museum is featuring a display of the Civil War through the eyes of Thomas Nast. This exhibit is marking the sesquicentennial of the Civil War and runs through June 28. They also have a number of other exhibits including Currier & Ives, and coming in March, one on the Canals of New Jersey.

Where do you like to go for a change of scenery in the winter?
