Six New Condos Inside Preserved Historic Beauty
Six new luxury condos will inhabit the Baptist church, but for those with historic preservation in mind, fear not; the architect working on the project plans to make very few changes to the structure and architecture of the building, instead focusing on restoring the church to its original beauty.
Discover the Bloomfield Baptist Church of Hoboken
Dating back to the turn of the 20th century (1890, to be exact), the church was originally designed by local architects French, Dixon & DeSaldern at the request of a local Baptist congregation. They designed a church of Romanesque style completed by its grandiose three-story bell tower and beautiful stained-glass windows. It remained an active church until very recently, when it was then purchased by an investor with a vision for turning the old church into magnificent new residences.
A New Architect with an Old Vision
Currently at work planning the project is architectural company Marchetto Higgins Stieve. They plan to replace the current roofing with a new Mansard style, add a fifth floor, and update the current windows to new Pella windows with matching historic frames. Everything else, they say, will be restored to its original magnificence.
Restoration projects will include cleaning and repairing the brick exterior and original doors, as well as 100% of the wrought-iron fencing.

Six condos will be created within the existing body of the church, two each of 2-bedroom, 3-bedroom, and 4-bedroom units. Four will be duplexes and the remaining two will be basement condos. The largest 4-bedroom will reach over 2,500 square feet of living space. Also in the works, a spacious rooftop terrace and skylights, and a beautiful lobby featuring the church’s original stained glass windows as wall art.
